Obtaining new table grape clones with superior response capacity to abiotic and biotic stress factors caused by climate change
Funder: Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development
Coordinator: Research and Development Station for Viticulture Murfatlar
Partners: P1 – Research and Development Station for Viticulture Iaşi
P2 – National Research and Development Institute for Biotechnology in Horticulture Ștefănești – Argeș
Project responsible: Ciobotea Cristina – Magdalena
Project development period: 2023-2026 (40 months)
Objectives
The general objective of the project: Structural improvement of the national grapevine assortment with valuable clones of table grape varieties showing increased adaptability to biotic and abiotic stress factors generated by current climate change.
Specific objectives
- Creating databases with genetic resources from the grapevine growing areas involved in the project;
- Studies on the main morpho-physiological characteristics, resistance to drought, early frosts, diseases, and pests;
- Comparative fields with selected candidate clonal elites;
- Trials with clonal elites of perspective: obtaining virus-free clonal elites;
- Registration at ISTIS of elites that prove increased adaptability to biotic and abiotic stress factors;
- Mother base demonstrative plantations;
- Rapid multiplication of the most valuable clones for their expansion;
- Dissemination of project results by organizing workshops, round tables, publications at national and international level; information leaflets with the most valuable clones; web page with information on project results.
Estimated results
- Climatic database on the suitability of representative national grapevine growing centers for the cultivation of table grape vine varieties.
- Database with genetic resources from the grapevine growing areas involved in the project.
- Studies, observations and determinations within the ampelographic collections where the initial control varieties are located as well as in existing comparative fields.
- Candidate clonal elites for the comparative field.
- Clonal elites of perspective.
- DUS and VAU study of prospective clonal elites.
- BASIC and CERTIFIED mother demonstrative plantations.
- Obtaining the initial G0 material, which is the starting point in creating BASIC plantations with new clones for table grapes with increased adaptability to biotic and abiotic stress factors, and which ensures constant superior and quality production.
- Rapid multiplication of clonal elites that correspond to the objectives assumed by the project.
Demonstration and promotion of the final results of the project to farmers in the areas of influence. Demonstrative visits, provision of information leaflets to farmers. Web page with information on the project results.
